Meeting Brief: July 10, 2024 City of Kalamazoo Historic Preservation Commission

Lakota Hobia, THPO with Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Potawatomi Indians met with the Commission for a Burial Mound Discussion, honoring and remembering the rich Native American history within our area.

Gary Swain of the Friends of Kalamazoo Historic Cemeteries’ who have organized to preserve and restore the city’s historic cemeteries, and maintain their ongoing projects to clean, repair, and protect gravestones. The group seeks to expand its board and collaborate with the city to educate the public about the rich history of the community.

Lakota Hobia, THPO with Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Potawatomi Indians met with the Commission for a Burial Mound Discussion and a broader conversation regarding markers and designation of indigenous history throughout the land once native to indigenous peoples.

Finally, the Commission reviewed the current financial report including the proposed 2025 budget.
