Several area organizations held a joint press conference on Monday, September 8, to point out how the proposed GOP Michigan state budget would decimate social programs affecting millions of Michiganders should it pass in November. Non-profit leaders urged voters to think about the programs at risk and call their representatives to vote against the budget.
Susan Rosas, CEO of YWCA Kalamazoo, hosted the press conference and provided important context for why funding programs to help vulnerable populations matter.
Cassandra Stewart, Director of Fund Development and Marketing for Milestone Senior Services, explained how extremely popular and important programs such as Meals on Wheels would be affected by the proposed budget.
Danielle Sielatycki, CEO of Prevention Works, described how at-risk children and adults vulnerable to drug addiction, for example, would lose access to critical programs that ultimately help entire communities, not just individuals.
