The Kalamazoo Valley Museum invites artists to spend a little quiet time sketching live musicians every third Friday of the month. Aubrey Jewel-Rodgers, Chair of Applied Arts and Media at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, talks about the unique opportunity for musicians and visual artists to come together to create something beautiful.
“This event is an informal space for us to be able to draw, create, and listen to some music,” said Aubrey. “It’s really important to just have some time to sit and draw and fill your cup that way.”
The idea came from her Drawing The Figure In Motion class, where models would play with swords or pose in athletic positions. She invited a cellist to come to class, and the students loved sketching to the soothing live music.
The event is free and open to the public, including non-artists who may simply enjoy listening to the music.
