County Commissioner Gisler visited to remind the board that the Senior millage will be up for vote on the August 6 ballot. Kalamazoo County Police Captain Christiansen celebrated the recent accreditation of the Kalamazoo County Police Department – find out more from the April 2 Kalamzoo County Regular Board meeting. Kalamazoo County Jail announces the launch of the IGNITE program which stands for Inmate Growth Naturally Intentionally Through Education to reduce criminal recidivism and improve rehabilitation and socialization during incarceration. The board approved the hire of a part-time firefighter bringing the department personnel to 39. The Road Commission of Kalamazoo County reviewed paving ratings and overall progress for Township roads with Chair Brennan, Mark Warden, and Commissioners Boersma and Stayhauer in attendance. Recycled tires are now being added to the chip seal program with a $700,000 grant from Eagle – the innovative process will begin with repaving N Avenue north to ML avenue. The Road Commission of Kalamazoo County and the Comstock Township Board join several local municipalities in adopting the Safe Streets for All Initiative as we strive for road maintenance and traffic calming measures throughout the Kalamazoo area.
