City of Kalamazoo – January 26, 2026 Kalamazoo City Commission

The Kalamazoo City Commission met to conduct regular city business. The meeting began with the presentation of the Social Justice Youth Awards, recognizing young people in the community for their leadership and contributions to social justice efforts. Commissioners offered remarks in support of the award recipients before moving into the evening’s agenda.

The commission then proceeded with routine business, including agenda approvals and multiple public comment periods. Commissioners considered a range of legislative and administrative items related to city operations, including ordinances, resolutions, and appointments, with discussion and votes taking place as required.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to a formal public hearing on a rezoning request for property at 4301 Stadium Drive. Numerous residents addressed the commission during the hearing, raising concerns related to land use, environmental impacts, and consistency with the city’s master plan. Commissioners discussed the rezoning request in relation to the city’s established criteria and planning considerations before moving forward with deliberation and action later in the meeting.
