2026 City of Kalamazoo Wastewater Reclamation Stakeholder Presentation

On Friday October 31st, 2025, The City of Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant (KWRP) hosted a public presentation for Wholesale Municipalities, Retail Authorities, and Industrial Users.

James Baker, Deputy Public Services Director for the City of Kalamazoo, led a comprehensive presentation outlining the city’s wastewater management system.

The session covered regulatory challenges with the EPA and EGLE, updates to the sewer use ordinance, and upcoming capital and O&M programs key components of maintaining a sustainable and compliant system.

Baker also previewed a detailed rate study explaining proposed adjustments across multiple classifications.

As part of the event, several local industries were recognized with Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) Awards for their exceptional environmental stewardship and operational excellence.

The presentation concluded with a discussion of next steps and an invitation to tour the wastewater treatment plant. Events like this strengthen collaboration between the city and local businesses, ensuring long-term community health and environmental protection.
